The word cheerfulness has various meanings. In the context of most of the cultures, cheerfulness signifies being happy. Cheerfulness is a positive attitude, a state of mind, and a disposition that one wants to create or be around because it makes people feel good.
In many cases, people would think that being cheerful means being a little old. In a word, cheerfulness is described as having a youthful disposition. However, contrary to that thought, cheerfulness can also mean feeling young at heart, full of vitality, and full of enthusiasm. In many ways, cheerfulness represents the feeling that we have the power and energy to make things happen no matter what may be the situation. That is why some people are very lively while others are rather quiet and serene. These traits, along with the desire to make things happen, give these people the desire to act cheerfully even under distressing circumstances.
Many would think that cheerfulness stems from the sense of fun and enjoyment one has with life. That is why cheerfulness is sometimes referred to as the little old lady's virtue. On the other hand, some people would also refer to cheerfulness as perseverance, which makes the old lady go through with it despite the odds. In other words, the feeling of cheerfulness does not come from being old but it comes from having a positive and persevering attitude. When we sense that we can make things happen despite all obstacles and difficulties, then we can be cheerfulness. Sometimes, just knowing that we can do it makes us cheerfulness.
For instance, let's say that there was a little old lady who had fallen down and was unable to get up on her own. Even though she tried several times, she could not get herself to rise from the ground. Then she knew that her only way out was to cheer up so that she would not lose her husband. When she cheerfully ran to the neighbors for help, she felt so cheerful even when she was in misery.
This is how cheerfulness comes to be part of our character. It gives us encouragement and strength even when things look bad. Many people have lost their lives because of being too cheerful or too depressed. The point is that cheerfulness does not make us happy forever, but it does bring with it an inner satisfaction that we were able to keep our nerve and keep going.
In conclusion, cheerfulness comes in many different types. It can come from nature, from nurture, and from other sources. We all need to learn how to cheer up from time to keep our spirits high.
